VolunteeringFriends of the LibraryGoals:
Media Center TLC
Though fabulous, without a doubt, Ms. Ammons is only one librarian. FOL members volunteer and/or recruit others to help with basic ongoing tasks and general care of the Media Center so that Ms. Ammons can focus more of her time on learning activities. Circulation Desk Assistance Volunteers check books in & out, reshelve books, help with other programs in the media center, and other tasks as needed. Library Beautification Various projects each year that visually enhance the atmosphere of the Media Center, such as updating shelf labels and creating book displays or bulletin boards. Year-End Inventory Volunteers search for duplicate or missing book titles, scan books for computer inventory updates and other related tasks once a year. Fund Raising The FOL is committed to raising funds used exclusively to support buying more books and other media for the school and for supporting reading enrichment programs. Ideas for fundraising are always welcome! Book Fairs Scholastic Book Fair (early October) Quail Ridge In-Store Book Fair (December) Reading Enrichment FOL members help with planning, scheduling, publicity, and staffing for a variety of ongoing programs, special events and activities throughout the year that are intended to inspire children to read more, improve reading comprehension, and broaden their reading interests.
Celebration BooksThis program encourages families to donate money for new books and recognizes student donors. Families donate twenty dollars to the media center in the name of a current or past student at Olds Elementary. This student will then choose a new book to donate to the collection.
