Thanksgiving School Messenger
November 26, 2013
Good day and Happy Thanksgiving from Olds Elementary! This is Dr. Wheeler, your school principal, and Mr. Liles, your Assistant Principal with a few announcements. These announcements will be posted on our school website under the Administrators' Notes heading.
Thanksgiving Break
Students and staff will be on Thanksgiving Break from Wednesday, November 27th through Sunday, December 1st.
School begins again on Monday, December 2nd.
Tuesday Folders
Tuesday Folders will go home today. The folder contains important information about upper elementary student test scores and upcoming events. Please be sure to review the material and send the folder back after our Thanksgiving break. We are so thankful for the teachers and volunteers who make our Tuesday folder communication system possible!
Science Fair
Feedback forms on Science Fair proposals are going home in Tuesday Folders, Tuesday, Nov. 26th. If you are expecting a feedback form and it is not in your Tuesday Folder, please contact the office at (919) 856-7699. We are thankful for all the volunteer parents, professors, and community members for their presentations and assistance with our Science Fair preparations!
Spelling Bee
The Spelling Bee will be January 23, 2014 at 3:30 pm in the Gym. If your child would like to participate, you should review the sign-up sheets and spelling words that went home in Tuesday folders. You also can email Karen Wing at [email protected] for information. Please send her your child's name, grade, homeroom teacher, contact phone number and email address. We are thankful for Mrs. Wing and the staff members who are planning this positive learning experience for our children!
Olds Elementary Online School Store
The store is now OPEN until NOVEMBER 30th. This is the last opportunity before the holidays to purchase items. The store will open again in the spring of 2014. We are thankful for our school store volunteers and partners! (School Store Link: http://johnsonlambe.itemorder.com) Sale Code: OLDS2013
Celebration Books
If you would like to donate to Celebration Books, you can contact the office for a form, fill it out, and then turn it back in to the office with your $20 donation. Donations are tax deductible. We are thankful for our Friends of the Library volunteers, our media specialist, teacher and teaching assistant helping hands, and our hard-working office staff!
Thanksgiving Food Baskets
We are thankful for Mrs. Reid’s coordination of our Thanksgiving food baskets and for all the school community people who donated items and helped set up the boxes. Thank you all!
BoosterThon
We are very grateful to Mrs. Holland and our entire school community for making our BoosterThon Run such a success. We raised a little over $16,000 for school needs like technology. We anticipate that the total amount raised will rise even higher as the last few families send in their pledge funds. Thank you students for participating in the fun run and the entire community for supporting them!
Grandparents and Special Friends Thanksgiving Luncheon
Today we are holding our annual Grandparents and Special Friends Thanksgiving Luncheon. We are so very thankful for all of the PTA volunteers, cafeteria staff, teachers, teaching assistants, and community members that make this such a wonderful school event every year!
We send "Happy Thanksgiving” wishes to all of you in our school community! We are so thankful for being fortunate enough to work with such supportive, dynamic, and dedicated teachers, teaching assistants, students, families and community members.
Happy Thanksgiving!
